Missed your target band in just one section? IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) lets you retake a single skill—Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking—without sitting the whole test again. This guide covers OSR availability, cost and booking for candidates in Nigeria.

One Skill Retake is available in Nigeria at test centres offering computer-delivered IELTS, including Lagos and Abuja. Paper-based test takers are not eligible — and with paper IELTS being phased out globally from mid-2026, computer delivery is now the default in major Nigerian centres.

How to Book OSR in Nigeria
Log in to the British Council or IDP account you used for your original computer-delivered test.
Open your test result and select the “One Skill Retake” option, then choose the skill, date and centre.
Book early — the retake must be completed within 60 days of your original test, and slots in Lagos and Abuja fill quickly.

- Your original test must be computer-delivered IELTS (Academic or General Training) — not paper-based, not IELTS Online
- Only one skill, only once per original test
- The retake must be completed within 60 days of the original test date
- You receive a new Test Report Form combining your original three scores with the retake score — and your original TRF stays valid too

Who Accepts OSR Results from Nigeria?
Most Nigerian candidates use IELTS for UK visas (UKVI accepts OSR for IELTS on computer in selected locations) or Canada (IRCC accepts OSR results for Express Entry). If Writing is the skill holding your CLB level down — the most common case — OSR lets you attack just that skill.
Common destinations for Nigerian candidates: the UK, Canada (Express Entry and study permits), and the US. Always confirm OSR acceptance with your specific university, employer or visa route before booking.
