IELTS One Skill Retake in India 2026
Missed your target band in just one section? IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) lets you retake a single skill—Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking—without sitting the whole test again. This guide covers OSR availability, cost and booking for candidates in India.

Availability in India
One Skill Retake is widely available in India through IDP (the sole IELTS operator in India) at computer-delivered test centres in all major cities. Note that paper-based IELTS in India ends after the final August 2026 sittings — from September 2026 all Indian IELTS tests are computer-delivered, which also makes every new test OSR-eligible.

How to Book OSR in India
Log in to your IDP IELTS account (the one used for your original computer-delivered booking).
Open your Test Report Form and select “One Skill Retake”, choose the skill, then pick a date and centre.
Pay the OSR fee online and complete the retake within 60 days of your original test.
Eligibility Reminders
- Your original test must be computer-delivered IELTS (Academic or General Training) — not paper-based, not IELTS Online
- Only one skill, only once per original test
- The retake must be completed within 60 days of the original test date
- You receive a new Test Report Form combining your original three scores with the retake score — and your original TRF stays valid too

Who Accepts OSR Results from India?
India is the world’s largest IELTS market. The most common OSR use case for Indian candidates is Canada Express Entry — lifting one skill (usually Writing) from CLB 8 to CLB 9 can add dozens of CRS points. IRCC, Australian DHA, New Zealand INZ and UKVI (selected computer locations) all accept OSR results.
Common destinations for Indian candidates: Canada, Australia, the UK and New Zealand. Always confirm OSR acceptance with your specific university, employer or visa route before booking.
