FAQ: IELTS One Skill Retake Explained

Detailed information about the option to retake a single section of the IELTS test.

Answer Details

What is IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR)?

IELTS One Skill Retake allows eligible test takers who have recently completed a full computer-delivered IELTS test to retake one of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking) without having to redo the entire test. The aim is to help you achieve your target score if you underperformed in just one area.

Who is eligible for OSR?

  • You must have taken a full computer-delivered IELTS Academic or General Training test recently at an eligible test center that offers OSR.
  • You must book the OSR within 60 days of your original test date.
  • You can only retake one skill per original full test.

Important: Eligibility and availability vary significantly by location and test center. Always check the official IELTS website or contact your local test center for the most current information.

How does it work?

If eligible, you can book the One Skill Retake through your test taker portal. You will receive a new Test Report Form (TRF) that includes your OSR score alongside your original scores for the other three skills. You can choose whether to use your original TRF or the new TRF with the OSR result.

Do universities and immigration authorities accept OSR?

Acceptance of IELTS One Skill Retake results is growing but varies among institutions and organizations. It is crucial to check directly with the university, professional body, or immigration authority you are applying to, to confirm if they accept OSR results for their requirements.
